Jennifer Borum Bechet

Commercial Litigation
Ms. Bechet is special counsel to the firm and concentrates her practice in complex litigation, products liability, and mass torts. She is admitted to practice law in Louisiana, New York, District of Columbia, Texas and Virginia.
Prior to joining Stone Pigman, Ms. Bechet served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York and practiced both civil and criminal law in New York City and Richmond, Virginia. Previously, she served as Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable James M. Sprouse of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Representative Matters
Defending major insurance company against claims alleging bad faith handling of property damage claims.
Counseled corporate owner of multiple nursing home facilities in challenge to Medicare intermediary proposed payment reimbursement rule.
Liaison Counsel for major pharmaceutical company in multi-district Vioxx litigation.
Appellate advocacy before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, on behalf of major insurance company against challenge to policy conversion.
Education
Ms. Bechet received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1990 where she was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. She received her B.A. with Highest Honors from Hampton University in 1987, graduating first in her class. In 2007, she was recognized as that university's Outstanding Twenty-Year Alumnus. A member of the American Bar Association, Ms. Bechet is Co-Chair of the Minority Trial Lawyer Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation. She is the immediate past Editor-in-Chief of the committee's publication, the Minority Trial Lawyer. She is a member of the New Orleans Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Defense Research Institute, Louis A. Martinet Society, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and American Mensa, Ltd. In 2004, Ms. Bechet received state-wide recognition as "Big Sister of the Year" for her volunteer activities and legal work on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters Services, Inc. She has served as an officer and Master of the John Marshall Inn of Court. Ms. Bechet is the author of several nationally-published articles and has lectured on trial technique. Publications
