Ms. Plunkett joined Stone Pigman in 2002, is a Board Certified Tax Law Specialist and is a member of the firm. She concentrates her practice in the counseling of privately-held businesses and high net worth individuals in their estate, tax and business succession planning and philanthropic endeavors, including private foundations. She also practices in the area of state and local taxation and is fully-versed in the state and local tax incentives and tax credits available in Louisiana. She is admitted to practice law in Georgia, Alabama, Virginia and Louisiana.
Representative Matters
Handles estate administration including the orderly transmission of assets to heirs and legatees, post-mortem estate planning, oversight of the preparation of federal estate tax returns and related controversy work such as will contests, trust disputes and fiduciary litigation.
Counsels closely-held business owners and high net worth individuals and family groups in their estate, tax and business succession planning.
Handles state and local tax controversy work in the state and federal courts and at the administrative level before the Board of Tax Appeals.
Advises clients in their lobbying efforts and negotiations at the state and parish levels.
Education
Ms. Plunkett graduated with distinction in 1997 from the Emory University School of Law and was a member of the Moot Court Society. She earned an advanced legal degree in taxation from the New York University School of Law in 1999. She received her undergraduate degree in 1993 from Emory University. Ms. Plunkett has been an officer for the Tax Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association since 2004 and is currently serving as Vice Chair for the 2010-11 fiscal year. She is the Section Chair of the New Orleans Bar Association's Estate Planning and Administration Committee. Ms. Plunkett is the immediate past president of the Symphony Volunteers, Inc., for which she has served as an officer since 2005, and serves on the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Board of Advisors. She served on the National Association of Estate Planning Council's 2007 Conference Committee. Ms. Plunkett is a graduate of the 2006 CBNO/MAC Metropolitan Leadership Forum. She is a member of the New Orleans Estate Planning Council; New Orleans Bar Association, Tax Committee; the Greater New Orleans Foundation Honor Roll of Advisors; and the Tulane Estate Planning Institute Advisory Board.
