Nicholas J. Wehlen joined Stone Pigman in 2004 and is a member of the firm. He has successfully represented defendants and plaintiffs in complex cases of all types. His litigation practice includes bankruptcy, procurement and public bid disputes, commercial litigation, toxic torts and securities litigation. Mr. Wehlen continually strives to exceed his clients' expectations and has been recognized as a "Rising Star" by Louisiana Super Lawyers magazine.
A member of the bar of Louisiana since 2004, Mr. Wehlen is admitted to practice before the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and all Louisiana federal and state courts.
Mr. Wehlen has been a speaker on the Louisiana Public Bid Law and the Louisiana Procurement Code.
Representative Matters
Has represented and continues to represent manufacturers of pumps and valves in asbestos exposure cases pending in various Louisiana district courts.
Represented significant equity holders in New Orleans Paddlewheels bankruptcy reorganization.
Represented second lien lenders group in Legends Gaming Chapter 11 case.
Represented a public housing agency in various public bid disputes, including a dispute arising from a challenge to a contract for the HVAC (Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning) system at one of the agency's high rises. Successfully defeated the preliminary injunction and then had the damages case dismissed on an exception of no cause of action granted by the Louisiana Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal.
Represented a major manufacturer of computer equipment in a breach of contract/unfair trade practices action where plaintiff alleged in excess of $1 billion in damages plus punitive damages. Case filed in the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana.
Successfully defended former CEO in bankruptcy court litigation with public company debtor.
Successfully represented former Entergy lineman in litigation against the manufacturer of an electrical utility pole after lineman suffered extensive, life-threatening injuries in the course of his work.
Has represented various creditors in bankruptcy proceedings of all sizes.
Education
Mr. Wehlen graduated Order of the Coif in 2004 from Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University, where he was an Associate with the Louisiana Law Review. Mr. Wehlen received his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in 2001. Professional and Civic Activities
