Ms. Griffin joined Stone Pigman in 2000 and is a member of the firm. She has a litigation and trial practice with emphasis in banking, insurance, contracts, and commercial litigation. She is admitted to practice in all Louisiana federal and state courts.
Representative Matters
Defended a nationally-renowned medical university in a claim asserting numerous causes of action arising out of a dispute over the ownership of a patent. After a bench trial, the trial court dismissed all but one of the plaintiffs' claims, and a favorable settlement was obtained while the case was pending on appeal.
Represented a major Baton Rouge business in a claim for conversion under the Uniform Commercial Code alleging that a bank improperly permitted a former employee to deposit corporate checks into a personal checking account. After a bench trial, obtained judgment in favor of the business for the full amount of the claim. The decision was affirmed on appeal. In related actions, obtained a summary judgment as well as favorable settlements against other financial institutions ordering the return of fraudulently transferred motor vehicle titles.
Obtained a favorable settlement on behalf of a community bank in a claim arising out of the alleged conversion of customer funds.
Defended insurance agent in a claim for breach of fiduciary duty for allegedly failing to procure adequate coverage. After a bench trial in St. Bernard Parish, obtained a judgment in favor of the agent dismissing all claims.
Represented law firm and other businesses in their Hurricane Katrina business interruption and property damage claims arising out of Hurricane Katrina.
Represented a local land owner in a claim for fraud in the procurement of several leases with an option to purchase. After a bench trial, the trial court set aside the leases due to fraud and entered judgment in favor of the client for the full amount of damages plus attorneys fees.
Defended a large real estate developer in a criminal action for alleged Clean Water Act violations, mail fraud and conspiracy.
Completed the first twelve-person criminal jury trial in Orleans Parish following Hurricane Katrina. The jury returned a verdict of not-guilty on all counts.
Represented major rail road company in action against other creditors asserting superior security interest. After bench trial, obtained judgment in favor of client recognizing superiority of lien.
Defending major insurance company against claims alleging bad faith handling of property damage claims and failure to procure adequate insurance coverage.
Defending major insurance company in pending class action alleging discrimination.
Representing corporate owner of multiple nursing home facilities in contract disputes and derivative action.
Representing several individuals in on-going succession proceedings challenging the validity of testaments.
Representing nursing homes in administrative appeals related to the denial of Medicaid payments.
Education
