Community
Stone Pigman has been part of the New Orleans community since 1929 and the Baton Rouge community since 2007. Our communities are an important part of who we are and, we believe, we are an important part of them. We demonstrate this in our commitment to support a wide variety of philanthropic endeavors, both as a firm and as individuals.
A cornerstone of our program of community involvement is our Partnership in Education with Alfred Lawless Senior High School. For more than a decade, the firm has supported a variety of academic and extracurricular activities at this New Orleans public high school, including reading programs, an annual book scholarship for a college-bound senior and the hiring of student workers enrolled in the cooperative education program. One such student, inspired by her exposure to the law, has since completed law school and is admitted to the Louisiana bar. Our financial support of Lawless funds Close-Up (a student trip to Washington, D.C.), the Student Achievement Banquet, parent field trips to college campuses and other needs as they arise.
But by no means is this Stone Pigman's only involvement in programs that enrich the lives of those living in our community. The firm supports a wide variety of other organizations, including Dress for Success, which provides skills training and wardrobe assistance for women entering the workforce; Longue Vue, a historic home and garden carrying out the mission of educating the public about art and nature; Tulane University and Tulane University Hospital and Clinic; WRBH, reading radio for the blind; Seasons, a grief counseling center; United Way of Greater New Orleans; and the American Heart Association.
Stone Pigman lawyers share a commitment to volunteering legal services with appropriate agencies. Both members and associates are serving or have served as officers with the New Orleans Pro Bono Project, and several are volunteers with the Orleans Parish Teen Court program. A Stone Pigman member was a recipient of the Louisiana State Bar Association's 2004 Pro Bono Publico award.
Our lawyers and staff have taken leadership positions in a number of professional and community organizations. Two of our members, Wayne J. Lee and Mike W. McKay, are past presidents of the Louisiana State Bar Association. Other Stone Pigman lawyers have taken a leadership role in the American Bar Association, American College of Real Estate Lawyers, American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, Federal Bar Association, New Orleans Bar Association, Baton Rouge Bar Association, Louis A. Martinet Society and more. In addition, both lawyers and staff are active on boards and committees of organizations including the Pro Bono Project, United Way, YMCA, Louisiana Bar Foundation, Anti-Defamation League, Bureau of Governmental Research, Baton Rouge Area Foundation and Boys and Girls Club of Baton Rouge.
