Special Counsel

Ms. McGowan focuses her practice on sophisticated commercial real estate transactions in Louisiana and elsewhere. She has been involved in many of the major commercial real estate transactions and gaming developments in the region. Ms. McGowan joined Stone Pigman in 2006.

Representative Matters

Represented local developer in the acquisition and financing of the Windsor Court and Royal Orleans Hotels.  The acquisition of the Windsor Court Hotel received the Deal of the Year award at the 2010 Americas Lodging Investment Summit.

Represented a casino operator in real estate acquisition, financing, land use, construction and development of riverboat casino and related properties throughout Louisiana, including Baton Rouge, Lake Charles, Bossier City and Harvey.

Represented the developer of the Loews New Orleans Hotel in acquisition, zoning, land use, development, construction and financing.

Represented a developer of retail stores throughout Louisiana in land acquisition, development, construction and financing.

Represented Circle Food Stores, Inc. in connection with the redevelopment of its iconic 7th Ward grocery store, which included financing through federal new markets tax credits, state and federal historic tax credits, bank loans, a grant from the City of New Orleans, loans through the New Orleans Fresh Food Retailers Initiative and the State Office of Community Development under the Louisiana Project-Based Recovery Opportunity Program.

Represented the Canal Street Development Corporation, a public benefit corporation owned by the City of New Orleans, in the financing and redevelopment of the historic Saenger Theatre in downtown New Orleans.  Financing for the project involved federal new markets tax credits leveraged by Community Development Block Grant funding, federal and state historic rehabilitation tax credits and Louisiana live performing arts tax credits.

Represented the purchaser in the acquisition and financing of Dominion Tower, the former New Orleans Shopping Centre and the associated New Orleans Centre parking garage in a transaction named one of the Wall Street Journal's deals of the year for 2009.

Professional and Civic Activities

Ms. McGowan is Chair of the "Nuts and Bolts of Retail Leasing" subcommittee of the American Bar Association and is Chair of the Real Property Trust & Estate Law Emerging Issues and Specialty Leases Committee.  She is also a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association, CREW and ULI (Urban Land Institute). 

Honors & Awards

In 2012, Ms. McGowan received the National Economic Impact Award from the Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Network for her work on the redevelopment of the historic Saenger Theatre in downtown New Orleans. She has been named to Best Lawyers in America in the field of Real Estate Law.  Ms. McGowan has been recognized as a Rising Star by Louisiana Super Lawyers magazine and as a Top Lawyer by New Orleans magazine.
