John P. Farnsworth


Mr. Farnsworth is Co-Chair of the firm's Energy Practice Group. His practice includes oil and gas litigation, commercial contract disputes, toxic tort, medical malpractice, and products liability claims, with a particular emphasis on pharmaceutical products. Mr. Farnsworth has over 20 years of litigation experience. He joined Stone Pigman in 1999 after practicing in Washington, D.C. for three years.

Representative Matters

Defending legacy oilfield site lawsuits for major oil and gas companies.

Defending oil and gas company in lawsuits filed by the South Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East and Plaquemines Parish concerning coastal land loss issues.

Defending oil and gas company in a downhole lawsuit where the plaintiffs alleged imprudent operations.

Represents a number of South Louisiana nursing homes in connection with medical malpractice claims.

Defended pharmaceutical manufacturer Purdue Pharma against product liability claims raised in multiple lawsuits across Louisiana concerning the prescription medication OxyContin.

Obtained dismissals of claims filed against Endo Pharmaceuticals Inc. in national consolidated multidistrict litigation involving PPA (phenylpropanolamine).

Represented international energy development company in an appeal before the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal.

Professional and Civic Activities

Mr. Farnsworth is a member of the American, Louisiana State, and New Orleans Bar Associations.  He is also a member of the Energy Bar Association and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.  He volunteers with CASA New Orleans as a court-appointed special advocate for children, and he is also a member of the New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council.
