Mr. Van Alstyne joined Stone Pigman in 2009 and is an associate of the firm. He focuses his practice on general business litigation, with emphasis in electronic discovery production in both federal and state courts. He has managed large Electronic Discovery productions in numerous complex disputes and routinely determines client preservation obligations. In addition, he advises clients on best practices and policies, creating defensible electronic data retention plans before litigation occurs that balance a client’s need for risk reduction with cost constraints. 

Representative Matters

Represented local business whose database was hacked.  Coordinated response with FBI and determined client’s obligations under laws of all 50 states.  Drafted and coordinated notifications to all affected individuals on behalf of the client. 

Represented distributor in a contractual dispute with rival distributor.  Obtained favorable ruling dismissing all claims (over $1 million in purported damages). 

Managed complex discovery obligations of client sued for over $100 million in a multi-district securities matter.  All claims dismissed, pending appeal.

Professional and Civic Activities

Mr. Van Alstyne is a member of the American, Federal, Louisiana State and New Orleans Bar Associations.  He is also a member of the Georgetown Electronic Discovery Institute.  And, he is a mentor for Baobab Leaders.
