Stone Pigman Provides Office Space and Legal Aid for Katrina Pro Bono Project
For the next eight weeks, Stone Pigman will be providing office space and free legal aid to lawyers from Womble Carlyle. These lawyers will team up with Laura Walker Plunkett and Southeast Louisiana Legal Services on a project that will offer free legal assistance to low-income homeowners who were affected by Hurricane Katrina. Womble Carlyle will send from four to six lawyers each week to New Orleans to work on approximately 200 cases to help low-income New Orleans homeowners clear title and claim ownership to property they inherited that was damaged or destroyed in last year's hurricane. Once these homeowners are granted legal title, they will qualify for FEMA assistance, state recovery grants, insurance and loans to rebuild and recover their property.
