Stone Pigman Member Phillip A. Wittmann Installed as President of the New Orleans Bar Association

Stone Pigman Member Phillip A. Wittmann was inducted as President of the New Orleans Bar Association at the Organization’s Annual Dinner Meeting on November 20, 2003.

Mr. Wittmann joined Stone Pigman in 1961, and has recently celebrated his 40th year as a Member with the firm. He is the chair of the firm’s Management Committee. Over the course of his career, Wittmann’s practice has involved him in virtually every category of civil, commercial and criminal litigation in trial and appellate courts throughout the Gulf South. Recently, his practice concentration has been devoted to class actions and complex multidistrict litigation. For example, he currently serves as counsel to R.J. Reynolds in ongoing tobacco related class action litigation.

Mr. Wittmann’s wide ranging resume of professional and civic activities demonstrates his commitment to Stone Pigman, to his profession, and to the community. He has served as a member of the Civil Rules Advisory Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States and as a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association. He has chaired the Louisiana State Board of Legal Specialization and is a member of the House of Delegates, the Continuing Legal Education Committee and the Antitrust Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and the International Society of Barristers. He is the 2000 recipient of the G. Duffield Smith Outstanding Publication Award from the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Wittmann has been named to The Best Lawyers in America in the field of business litigation since its initial publication.

Mr. Wittmann graduated from the Tulane University School of Law in 1961, where he was named to Phi Beta Kappa, Order of the Coif, Omicron Delta Kappa and served on the Tulane Law Review Board of Editors. He received his undergraduate degree from Tulane University in 1956. He was admitted to the Louisiana bar in 1961.
