Carmelite Bertaut Appointed to the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs Advisory Committee
Carmelite M. Bertaut has received an appointment by the president-elect of the American Bar Association, Linda A. Klein, to the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs Advisory Committee. Ms. Bertaut's appointment is one of three appointments for the upcoming bar year, 2016-2017, to the 14 member committee.
The ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs has the mandate to educate the legal profession concerning alcoholism, chemical dependencies, stress, depression and other emotional health issues, and assist and support all bar associations and lawyer assistance programs in developing and maintaining methods of providing effective solutions for recovery. The Commission is the organized bar's sole national entity dedicated to lawyer assistance. It produces an annual conference; provides extensive outreach, including regional training and technical assistance; conducts and advances research; contributes to published information; addresses the needs of specific populations; and advances policies designed to protect the public while helping lawyers in need of assistance.
