Janine Sylvas Named Legal I.T. Director of the Year
Yesterday, American Lawyer Media's Law Technology News named Janine Sylvas, Legal I.T. Director of the Year. After soliciting nominations from over 40,000 magazine and web subscribers, three independent judges selected Janine for her efforts in providing emergency I.T. support for Stone Pigman's start up office in Baton Rouge after Hurricane Katrina forced the firm to evacuate. Within 24 hours of hurricane landfall and for several months thereafter, Janine worked through monumental challenges -- both business and personal -- to support the work of the firm.
"Janine worked seamlessly through the chaos," said Nancy Claypool, Executive Director of Stone Pigman. "She worked to immediately set up temporary e-mail communications, post daily messages on the firm's website for clients and firm personnel. She arranged to purchase servers for the firm's Houston disaster recovery site, and purchased laptops, desktops, firewalls, routers, telephone equipment and other essential items to support the firm's voice and data systems. She is the epitome of grace under pressure."
Janine will be honored at an awards ceremony on Monday, January 30 at the New York Hilton. In addition, she will receive additional coverage in the March issue of Law Technology News and on its website at www.lawtechnologynews.com. Law Technology News will make a $5,000 donation on behalf of Janine to the Mississippi Center for Justice and New Orleans Legal Assistance. Both organizations provide free legal aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
