Barry Ashe Receives John R. "Jack" Martzell Professionalism Award
The Federal Bar Association, New Orleans Chapter presented Barry Ashe with the John R. "Jack" Martzell Professionalism Award at the Chapter's Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon on August 27, 2015.
The annual award recognizes a lawyer who best exemplifies outstanding professionalism in the practice of law. Mr. Martzell practiced in New Orleans and served as a law clerk to the Honorable J. Skelly Wright, U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Mr. Martzell served as Director of the Louisiana Commission on Human Relations, Rights and Responsibilities for six years, President of the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association and as Chairman of the Department of Public Affairs with the Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
"Barry is always the calm eye in the midst of the storm! A consummate gentleman who is a prime example of what professionalism should be. I don't think I've ever seen Barry upset, even in the face of extreme provocation (sometimes from me) and he never loses his professional detachment. I consider myself very fortunate to have Barry as the Chair of our firm's Management Committee and his leadership is a big factor in our firm's success." Phil Wittmann, firm member and former Martzell Professional Award recipient.
"Having known Barry for almost 35 years, from our time as law school classmates through spending our professional careers together, I can say first-hand that honesty, trustworthiness, integrity, courtesy, generosity and professionalism are the hallmarks of Barry's character. Those qualities, when combined with Barry's intelligence, insight, good judgment and great work ethic, result in the great lawyer and truly good person that I am proud to call my friend and partner." Scott Whittaker, firm member.
