Wayne Lee Receives 2010 President's Award of the Louisiana State Bar Association
Wayne J. Lee, chair of the Commercial Litigation practice, was one of nine recipients of the 2010 Louisiana State Bar Association President’s Award. The honors were presented on June 11 by LSBA President Kim M. Boyle during the association’s Annual Meeting in Florida.
The awards are presented each year by the LSBA to recognize outstanding contributions from bar members who have volunteered on projects making a substantial impact on the bar and the legal profession. In addition to Mr. Lee, this year’s award recipients include four Louisiana attorneys, two judges, two law firms and the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society.
Mr. Lee’s award was given in recognition for exemplary work as co-chair of the LSBA’s Diversity Committee. The Committee presented various diversity-related projects throughout the year, among them the highly successful 2010 Conclave on Diversity in the Legal Profession. The Committee was also responsible for numerous mini-caucuses throughout the state which the LSBA co-hosts with the Louisiana Supreme Court and several local and specialty bar associations.
This is the third time Mr. Lee has received the LSBA President’s Award. He was recognized in 1998 for his contributions as co-chair of the Practice Assistance and Improvement Committee, and in 1992 for his contributions as chair of the Continuing Legal Education Program Committee.
Mr. Lee has held several other leadership positions within the LSBA, including serving as LSBA president in 2003-04. He was also a member of the American Bar Association House of Delegates in 2003-05 and is a former member of the American Bar Association’s Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession.
“We’re proud of Wayne’s achievements and to be associated with him,” said James C. Gulotta Jr., chair of Stone Pigman’s Litigation and Toxic Torts/Products Liability practices. “He is an exemplary leader of the LSBA and the firm.”
A seasoned litigator who has been a member of the Louisiana Bar since 1974, Mr. Lee focuses his practice on insurance and insurance class-action lawsuits. He has experience handling coverage issues, bad faith claims, mold claims, and regulatory issues. Mr. Lee is also chair of the firm's management committee.
In addition to his work at Stone Pigman, Mr. Lee currently serves on the Board of Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund and is a member of the board of directors for Associated Catholic Charities. He also chaired the board of the Audubon Nature Institute, Kingsley House and the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
Mr. Lee was selected as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1994, and has been named to The Best Lawyers in America (business litigation) and to Chambers U.S.A. America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (general commercial litigation). He received the Louisiana Bar Foundation’s Distinguished Attorney Award in 2006.
