Overview

From forming to dissolving a non-profit corporation, Stone Pigman advises clients on the structure, funding and operational aspects of public charities and other non-profit corporations and charitable foundations, including formation, qualification with the Internal Revenue Service and related tax-exempt status compliance and board governance. We also represent non-profits in litigation and provide meaningful advice on funding and other significant issues.

Non-profit, charitable and civic organization clients include Lambeth House, Inc. (A Continuing Care Retirement Community in New Orleans); Episcopal Housing for Seniors, Inc.; Trinity Episcopal School; Trinity Church; the University of Virginia; a major national research university; and numerous private foundations.

In addition, our trusts and estates attorneys handle charitable planning issues involving bequests, inter vivos donations, trusts, foundations, and others, and deal with tax issues raised by charitable giving.  For example, the firm assisted Odyssey House of Louisiana, Inc. on a government audit of programs offered by Odyssey House post Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Members of Stone Pigman also gain first-hand knowledge of the challenges non-profits face by serving on the boards of various non-profits in the Metro New Orleans and Baton Rouge areas.
