Overview

Stone Pigman litigators are not only skilled courtroom practitioners but they are also well-versed and experienced in alternative methods of resolving disputes. Most cases settle before going to trial, and mediation is now recognized as a valuable tool to assist parties in reaching settlements which are in their best interests. Our mission is always to seek the best outcome for our clients using the most efficient and cost-effective methods, and a mediated settlement often offers the optimum opportunity to achieve that goal.

Another alternative to traditional litigation that is being used with increasing frequency is arbitration.  Many of our litigators are experienced in appearing before arbitrators or arbitration panels in a wide variety of cases, representing clients who have selected arbitration as the means of resolving their contractual disputes.

Because of their reputation and experience as advocates in mediations and arbitrations, as well as litigation, several of our senior attorneys are frequently retained to serve as neutrals – mediators and arbitrators – in cases in which they do not represent clients as advocates.  Often parties retain these lawyers to mediate or arbitrate cases in their particular areas of subject matter.  Stone Pigman attorneys are on arbitration and mediation panels of such organizations as the American Arbitration Association, the International Trademark Association, the Patterson Resolution Group, and MAPS (Mediation Arbitration Professional Systems, Inc.) and they also serve as neutrals in unadministered arbitrations and mediations.  These lawyers' experience as advocates and as neutrals enhances the quality and value of the services they render in each of these roles, and add an additional dimension and depth to the firm's litigation practice.
