Overview

Brooke Tigchelaar concentrates her practice in family law, including divorce, property partition, custody, and support.  She regularly handles high-conflict situations, intricate property partitions, and evolving custody and support agreements for high-net-worth individuals.  She is skilled in conflict resolution, delivering sound guidance and service to each client with discretion and compassion.  Brooke also has experience in commercial litigation, including general business litigation and products liability disputes.

Brooke is recognized by Chambers and Partners in the High Net Worth Guide for Family/Matrimonial Law, as a "Top Lawyer" by New Orleans Magazine, and most recently, by Best Lawyers for Family Law.  She has previously been recognized as a Rising Star by Louisiana Super Lawyers and as a Leadership in Law honoree by New Orleans CityBusiness.  She received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Loyola University College of Law and her undergraduate degree from Tulane University.  She is a Fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation and is also involved with volunteer programs, including staffing of the self-help desk for pro se litigants.  Brooke has previously served on the board of Louisiana Appleseed.  She joined Stone Pigman in 2008.

Representative Matters

  • Obtained various settlement agreements without necessity of court appearance, on various issues relating to child custody, child support, use and occupancy of the formal matrimonial domicile, interim spousal support, and final spousal support.
  • Secured final judgment of divorce for clients without protracted litigation and with no court appearance required.
  • Offers comprehensive planning pre-marriage and/or after contemplation of separation and drafting of premarital and postnuptial agreements protecting assets for high-net-worth clients.
  • Amicably settled large community property partition cases involving multiple business interests, stocks, retirement accounts, and other financial assets in excess of tens of millions of dollars in value.
  • Secured favorable ruling for client prohibiting introduction of any evidence at trial for the opposing party due to noncompliance with discovery.
  • Favorable rulings on jurisdiction and domicile, keeping litigation in place chosen by client.
  • Successful negotiation and settlement of complicated property partition, involving multiple closely-held business interests.
  • Defends claims to modify contractual spousal support.
  • Successfully defended against claims for voluntary underemployment and achieved reduced child support awarded for client.
  • Secured sole custody for a client of the minor children when one parent struggled with mental health and medical issues.
  • Secured sole custody and supervised visitation for client when spouse struggled with alcohol and addiction problems.
  • Successfully negotiated international relocation of the children to country of client's choosing.
